Tips To Stop Bullying by Brad Ulrich

1) Support Anti-Bullying Campaigns Occurring in Schools
Most schools have an emphasis on stopping bullying from happening in their school. As both teachers and     students, it is important to get involved in this process by working with the school administration and         supporting the school's efforts to stand up against bullying happening and create a culture where                 everyone is accepted

2) Get Parents Involved
It is important that parents are properly informed of the school's policy on bullying and that they are also     active participants in creating a culture that does not support bullying. A relationship with the parents will     help teacher's and administrators build a open line of communication with family's who can also play an     important role in talking to their own kids about the importance of respecting and treating other students     properly. Building this relationship with the parents will also help to establish a better understanding of
why certain students may be acting a certain way in particular situations at school due to what is
    happening at home.

3) Students/Peers Speak Up and Against Bullying
Most bullying occurs in areas where there is not adult supervision but often will occur amongst other
peers acting as onlookers. It is important that students are properly trained and supported about
speaking up for those who are being bullied. This involves students supporting those who are being
bullied and not just laughing with the crowd or doing nothing when a student is getting picked on. In
situations when a second party student's safety is at risk if they step in, then they should be properly         informed about getting the help of an adult.

4) Take the Issue of Stopping Bullying Seriously
Throughout the years that every student goes to school it is natural that some teasing and joking around
will happen within the school between students. What students need to learn early on is that bullying in     contrast to teasing is not acceptable. Bullying is a form of torture that can have long term psychologically     damaging effects on students. Since students are smart and will push the boundaries of what is
acceptable or not early on, it is important that all faculty are on board of enforcing anti-bullying within the     schools so that the expectations for students is clear and promptly enforced in circumstances that go too     far.
